I LOVE the dramatic look of photographing a black dog against a black background. I often get calls from people telling me that they have a black dog and that they can’t get any decent photographs of their furbaby, and they’re concerned that I won’t be able to either. It’s all in the lighting and understanding exposure. Remi visited the studio recently and I took a few headshots of him. He has the most beautiful face and priceless expressions. He is a rescue dog and is living with a wonderful family that loves him. Thankfully, Remi did not fall victim to Black Dog Syndrome, a bias noted in the rescue and sheltering world, whereby which black dogs are often overlooked for adoption. They often wait much longer in shelters for their forever homes and are euthanized at higher rates than dogs with other colored coats. If you are seeking your next best friend, consider saving one of these black beauties.
